Is smooth or profiled decking more slip-resistant?

Our bamboo profiles are exceptionally hard. At 107 N/mm², they are approximately three times as hard as oak (34 N/mm²) or teak (31 N/mm²). Despite this, you can still use standard woodworking tools to work with the material. However, we recommend using metal drill bits and saw blades for drilling and cutting.

Thanks to their dimensional stability, working with bamboo profiles is straightforward and convenient.

Bamboo is more stable in color and grays much more slowly than common types of wood. In addition, the greying of bamboo profiles is much more a superficial “dirt” that does not penetrate deep into the material due to special properties such as density and strength. The look can be maintained by cleaning and care with the special bamboo care oil from AMBOOO.

For stubborn dirt, we recommend cleaning with AMBOOO Cleaner before oiling. If the material has not been cared for a long time, it should be treated or sanded with a silicon carbide broom.

In general, AMBOOO bamboo decking boards offer slip resistance in accordance with DIN 51097 and DIN 51130 - R12. The smooth side of the decking board is even more slip-resistant than the profiled side. With profiled sides, weather or environmental influences, such as rain and frost or pollen, dirt, etc. play a greater role and can become more slippery.

The advantages of the smooth side are easier cleaning and care. Visually, natural, weather-related changes in the material can be more noticeable, but can also be processed faster and better.

Due to the properties, such as the particularly high density, of our bamboo profiles, a special bamboo care oil has been developed that is tailored to them. The use of wood care oils or cooking oils does not work on bamboo, as they do not bond with the surface structure and do not dry and protect.

AMBOOO care oil is a water-based thin-layer glaze that has been tailored to bamboo over many years of development. Development and production take place in Germany and meet the highest quality standards. The oil not only refreshes the colour, but also protects the material from the elements.
